Vivo dominates the smartphone market in China

Vivo reportedly managed to dominate the market smartphone in China. The latest report from Counterpoint, Vivo managed to crush Oppo after the Covid-19 pandemic was brought under control in China.

In March, a similar report indicated that OPPO was the No.1 brand smartphone for the first time in January 2021. Now, Vivo has taken its turn to jump ahead of OPPO thanks to the presence of Vivo Y and S models.

Launching Gizmo China, Vivo holds the top position with a market share of 24 percent compared to OPPO 21 percent and Huawei 15 percent on March 28, 2021 (Week 13). In the latest report, Vivo has also almost increased its market share by 4 percent since January.

In the report, Vivo also includes the iQOO sub-brand. Meanwhile, OPPO does not include Realme and OnePlus. Likewise, Huawei’s share, which leads the market smartphone by 2021, excluding HONOR.

On the other hand, Huawei has been trying to steal its lost market share. However, the report said that 76 percent of Vivo sales in February 2021 were related to 5G products.

One of the products that has helped Vivo become the ruler in China is thanks to the presence of 5G devices such as the Vivo Nex 3.

Apart from that, Vivo also positions its product lineup very well with the NEX, X, S, Y series.The NEX and X series are the mainstay with camera upgrades (such as the ZEISS tie-up) while the latter two are more affordable devices.

Not to mention that iQOO has grown to focus more on the online market. OPPO, on the other hand, has flagship Reno and mid-range A devices.

March 2021, Oppo succeeds in becoming a brand smartphone bestseller in China for the first time. Counterpoint’s report states that Oppo has captured 21 percent of the market smartphone world largest in January, ahead of Vivo and Huawei which both grabbed 20 percent citing The Verge.

Apple and Xiaomi round out the top five with 16 percent each.

Oppo’s sales increased 26 percent year-on-year and increased 33 percent from the previous month. Counterpoint says that the new Reno 5 series had a successful launch because it offers better specs at a lower price than the previous Reno 4.
