The AFC Remscheid Amboss will play against the Krefeld Ravens next Saturday. Despite the last two wins in a row, the team of Amboss head coach Paolo Bizzarri is only an outsider at the table leader. Kickoff in Krefeld is at 3 p.m.
“The nice thing is that we don’t have to prove anything in Krefeld,” says Bizzarri, looking at the game with the promoted team. The Krefelders had strengthened themselves with several Americans this season and are aiming for a direct march through to the regional league. In the previous three games, the Ravens did not show any weaknesses and are in first place in the table of the Oberliga NRW with three games won plus the two wins against the Siegen Sentinels.
After two recent victories, at the Dortmund Giants and against the Aachen Vampires, the anvil can travel to the Lower Rhine loosely and freed from pressure. With third place in the table, the Bizzarri men sort themselves into the secure midfield of the tableau and can only be displaced by one place by the Münster Mammuts in the middle of the season.
“We’ll give everything and push ourselves through every successful play,” says Bizzarri, “we have nothing to lose in Krefeld.” Luckily, the Amboss side weren’t injured against Aachen last weekend, so there’s a chance that that will happen the tense personnel situation improves at least slightly. In particular, the offensive linemen Patric Wendling, Lars Ramus and Max Wandschura had to play on both sides of the ball against Dortmund and Aachen, which means an enormous loss of strength.
“The break after the Krefeld game isn’t a week too soon for us,” said Bizzarri. Due to the fact that the last home game before the summer break was canceled due to the withdrawal of the Siegen Sentinels, the Amboss will only continue with an away game at the Aachen Vampires on August 14th.
