From August 26 to August 28, 2021, Mr. Abdulla SHAHID, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, who was elected to the presidency of the 76e session of the United Nations General Assembly, will visit Japan at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA).
- During his stay, the future president will meet Prime Minister SUGA Yoshihide for a courtesy visit and meet with Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu.
- This visit to Japan by the future president of the 76e session of the United Nations General Assembly should help strengthen cooperation between Japan and the United Nations, and develop the various international contributions promoted by Japan within the United Nations.

The future President Abdulla SHAHID is from the Republic of Maldives. After having successively held the functions of deputy, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs, President of the People’s Majlis and since 2018 Minister of Foreign Affairs for a second term. Mr. Abdulla SHAHID was elected president of the 76e session of the United Nations General Assembly on June 7 at the United Nations General Assembly for a one-year term (September 2021 – September 2022).
