Viseu Chamber prepares ‘Magic Cube’ to liven up the city

Already has name Plan B of Câmara de Viseu for the S. Mateus Fair, event that this year was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event will be called Cubo Mágico and will run from July 21 to September 21, offering a program with a hundred initiatives to boost the county.

The announcement was made this Thursday (June 25) by the President of the City of Viseu, Almeida Henriques.

The mayor promised an “unique and unrepeatable event, which aims to help merchants, people who came to the S. Mateus Fair, our hotels and restaurants and the local economy with a set of micro-events, which are 100, and will boost several areas of the city, especially in the historic center ”.

Almeida Henriques guarantees that the events will be dispersed, to guarantee security in the face of the risk of Covid-19 and do not replace the frank event that took place in the city for centuries.

“This is the plan that we are putting in place to minimize the effects and still have some animation in the city, to stimulate domestic tourism, to welcome emigrants and to have some dynamics”, he adds.

The mayor stresses that this is a project for economic and cultural resuscitation and for commercial and tourist revitalization in Viseu. The initiative will take place in several spaces and is promoted in conjunction with the Portuguese hotel, restaurant and similar associationl, a Turismo do Centro, the Commercial Association of Viseu and Viseu Marca.

The agreement between these entities was approved this Thursday (June 25) at a Chamber meeting. Almeida Henriques criticizes the opposition’s abstention.

Already the councilor of the PS, José Pedro Gomes, regrets that the majority PSD did not give almost any information about this new initiative. “We are talking about eight activities that will take place in various places in the city, but we don’t know anything else. And that is fundamentally the reason for abstaining ”, he says.

The socialist reiterates, however, that the opposition is in favor of the concept of the Magic Cube, “even because we think that, at this moment, for trade and tourism, these events make more sense than ever”.

“However, we cannot sign below and subscribe to everything that comes here, just because we are in agreement with the principle. We are councilors and demand more details. We don’t know how much it costs, ”he exemplifies.

The Magic Cube will be presented publicly next Monday (June 29).
