Visa Bulletin for April 2024 shows progress in the F2A category – 2024-03-11 09:50:17

The US Government recently published its Visa Bulletin for the month of April 2024, which, while it does not show many changes, brought with it a three-month advance in the waiting list for the F2A visa category.

It is important to remember that this bulletin will function as a waiting list that lists all people who have family petition cases and whose relatives are outside the country. With this document there is a “guide” that offers an estimate of when, depending on the visa category in which they are located, a person will be able to proceed to the next steps to obtain a visa.

Because of this, it is of utmost importance that people who have open family reunification claims stay informed about the document.

According to the lawyer specialized in migration, Abel Zaldívar, the best way to understand the visa bulletin is to pay attention to the two tables that appear.

The first “available visa” table or “the good one,” as he calls it, shows when applicants can proceed to obtain their visas to travel to the US. In other words, this table shows the current availability of visas for each of the categories, as well as when applicants will be able to begin taking action to complete their process.

On the other hand, table B, known as “The Six Steps”, shows information about the different preliminary steps that an applicant must follow before reaching the point where their visa is available.

Category F2A

The April bulletin showed a favorable advance for the F2A category, which corresponds to spouses and minor children of permanent residents. This type of visa was available in June 2020 during the bulletin corresponding to March, but just a month later, it was advanced to September 2020.

For Cubans, these advances are significant, as they represent renewed hope to reunite with their loved ones sooner.

Visa bulletins began to be published in 1977, as part of a measure adopted by the US Department of State (DOE), specifically the Office of Consular Affairs.

The document began to be issued monthly with the objective of providing detailed information on the availability of the number of visas for family- and employment-based immigration processes, information that has always been highly requested.
