VIRUS / ROUNDUP: Disney theme parks in California, Florida and Paris are closing

LOS ANGELES (dpa-AFX) – Because of the coronavirus crisis, the US entertainment giant Walt Disney temporarily closes all its amusement parks. The company announced Thursday night (local time) that the Disney Disney World amusement parks in Florida and Disneyland in Paris would close for several weeks from Sunday to the end of the month.

A few hours earlier, Disney had announced that its oldest amusement park, Disneyland, California, will be closed Saturday through late March. Disney theme parks in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai have been closed for several weeks.

No cases of coronavirus infections have been reported in Disneyland, California, but the closure is in the best interest of visitors and employees, the release said. It follows the Californian governor’s recommendation not to hold events with more than 250 people in the west coast state.

The attractions on the Anaheim site just outside of Los Angeles are a big tourist magnet. Most recently, the amusement park opened in 1955, which likes to pretend to be “Happiest Place on Earth”, was closed after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in the USA. / Mub / DP / eg
