Virus Muleshoe (MULEV) is a novel single-stranded, enveloped, negative sense orthohantavirus RNA.[1]

Natural reserve

Muleshoe virus was isolated from two cotton rats (Sigmodon hispidus) in Deaf Smith County, Texas in 1995 following a fatal case of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome in a child. Field investigation revealed the new Muleshoe virus. The source of HPS in children was determined to be Virus Sin Nombre.

Virologie

The complete genomic sequence was determined for MULEV and was found to be phylogenetically closer to the structure of Bayou Virus.
