“Virtuix’s Ready Player One-inspired VR Treadmill hits the market at a steep price”

We won’t say that we are shocked by the price, but few people will be able to pay it right away. Ready Player One comes to life with this VR treadmill.

It is officially ready, but for now only testers are being supplied with the first VR treadmill of the startup Virtuix, which, according to TechCrunch, has been developed for nearly a decade in order to be widely available commercially this year. The accessory that simulates virtual reality even more lifelike actually comes straight from Ready Player One, as Virtuix was the company that supplied the VR treadmill model already implemented in the film with CGI technology for the filming.

The Omni One has evolved a lot since then and is ready to hit the market.

Of course, the piece seen in Spielberg’s cinema looks completely different, as the director expected not only the appearance of usability, but also that it would look like something produced in the distant future.

The Omni that can be purchased in reality will not contain any moving parts, in other words, instead of the ground moving in all directions, you can simulate walking and running by wearing special shoes made for the device and sliding on a static surface. In order to use the device, you need hand controllers instead of VR gloves, while our body is supported by a massive stand that bends in three joints and the strap connected to it, even during intense, even training-like movements.

Virtuix announced the other day: it is ready to start delivering the model, which seems to be more advanced than ever before, to customers, but in return it will have to shell out quite a bit of money. The net price is $2,595, or approx. It will be HUF 900,000, including VAT and customs duties

at home, the cost can even exceed HUF 1.1-1.2 million.

Let’s note: the total amount was probably so high because, while the price of the previous versions was calculated without a VR headset, the final Omni comes with Pico Neo 3 glasses. This is part of the package, according to the rationale, because the VR treadmill provides a much more complete experience with it than with other headsets. By the way, it is only incompatible with Meta Quest, and according to the news so far, it will only be used with PC, not consoles.

The question is how successful it can be, when there is also a significantly cheaper alternative:

MUST: super-realistic VR treadmill is coming!
