New Delhi – Indian cricketer Virat Kohli and his wife and Bollywood star Anushka Sharma announced the birth of their second child earlier this week. Kohli also announced that the baby boy born on February 15 has been named ‘Akai’ through a social media post. After this, the baby was born in London and therefore, wide discussions started on whether to choose Indian citizenship or British citizenship.
But the latest reports state that even though Akai was born in the UK, that is not a reason to claim citizenship. The law states that a child can only be treated in the same way if one of the child’s parents is a British citizen. Although both have property in Britain, the children are not eligible for British citizenship. Meanwhile, a UK passport will be available.
Earlier this week, Kohli himself informed the world about the birth of the baby through his official social media account. Kohli wrote on Instagram, ‘We announce the birth of a baby brother named Akai to Vamika on February 15th with great joy and heart-pounding love.’
Earlier, Kohli had withdrawn from the Test series against England. Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma got married in 2017, putting an end to long rumours. On January 1, 2021, the Kohli-Anushka couple had their first child. Both of them named the elder girl as Vamika. Vamika’s younger brother was born shortly after the elder’s third birthday.
