“Many people come, because my bananas grow from the ground. It’s strange, bananas bear fruit without stems and leaves, ”said a resident of Koto Majidin Hilir Village, Kerinci Regency, Thursday (20/8/2020).
When contacted by the banana owner, M Toyib said, the bananas had produced fruit three times with abnormal conditions. Previously, according to Toyib, the parent banana had two hearts, then it was ripe and edible.
Furthermore, after the parent bears fruit and dies, new tillers grow. Toyib’s bananas return to fruit with four hearts or bunches. In addition to unique fruit, the tree also branches to form the letter V or catapult.
The phenomenon of bananas that bear fruit without stems and leaves is a spectacle for residents. Each two-pronged stem produces two hearts.
“There are four in total,” said Toyib when contacted, on Tuesday.
For now, Toyib’s bananas took out six bunches.
“Now for the third time, bananas bear fruit with two bunches, then four bunches and finally six bunches,” said Toyib.
Toyib believed that miracles were a blessing from God. For this reason, he prohibits residents who use their bananas for something strange, for example for medical treatment and mystical things.
The banana was also named by the residents as the magic banana.
Meanwhile, a researcher from Jambi University, Dede Martino, explained that the phenomenon of bananas with abnormal fruit is due to the plant having more than one cell chromosome, or what is called polyploid.
“Generally 3, in nature there can be changes or mutations due to the adaptation process. “The chance for bananas to mutate is indeed greater than other plants,” said Dede.
