Viral How to Overcome Variants of COVID-19 BA.2 and XE by Sunbathing, Here Are the Facts

Recently, information circulated on social media about how to deal with the new variants of Corona BA.2 and XE in the community. In the narrative, it is stated that the two variants will spread and spread quickly, especially in countries with cold weather.

BA.2 is a subvariant of the Omicron variant (BA.1) which has spread to many countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the subvariant known as ‘Omicron Stealth’ differs in several mutations, including mutations in the spike protein.

For the XE variant, it is said to be still a derivative of the Omicron variant. This makes the transmission higher than other variants. This variant is a recombination of Omicron BA.1 and BA.2 which is believed to be 10 percent more infectious.

In an upload on social media, there is a narrative that mentions several ways to overcome the two variants. The trick starts from basking in the sun, consuming herbal ingredients, and consuming Ivermectin.

How are the facts?

In fact, the information circulating is wrong or a hoax. Quoted from the Covid19.go.id page, the spokesperson for the COVID-19 vaccination of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that the distribution of the BA.2, XE, and even the Corona virus as a whole had nothing to do with weather or sunlight.

The Coordinator of the Hortus Medicus B2P2TOOT Herbal Science Clinic at the Ministry of Health also emphasized that there are no herbal ingredients, both traditional and modern, that can treat the Corona virus. As of now, it is still in the research and development stage.

While regarding Ivermectin, the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency has advised against buying and consuming the drug without a doctor’s prescription.
