Violent Attack on Firefighters and Doctor: Judgement Delayed Until December 8th

The alleged attacker of the 3 firefighters and an emergency doctor will finally be judged on December 8 in Montauban in Tarn-et-Garonne, after the result of a psychiatric assessment.

The 22-year-old young man, placed in pre-trial detention since Tuesday, October 31, 2023, in Montauban in Tarn-et-Garonne, after violently attacking 3 firefighters and a doctor from the Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Service (Smur) in his own home, will not finally be judged until December 8.

Tried in immediate appearance, this Friday, November 3, 2023, the court finally requested a psychiatric expertise to determine his criminal responsibility. This young adult, soon to be the father of a second child, has in fact been placed under reinforced guardianship for two years.

Already convicted twice for contempt and sexual assault, he is still under sentence and therefore in a state of legal recidivism. He is being prosecuted, this time, for “intentional violence against a person entrusted with a public service mission, insults, damage to public property, death threats, contempt and drunkenness”. For these facts, he faces up to 5 years of imprisonment.

On the night of October 29 to 30, 2023, rescuers were called to intervene in Valence d’Agen in response to a case of respiratory distress at the young adult’s home.

But the man obviously under the influence of alcohol, had physically and violently attacked them, kicking them, or even biting the Moissac emergency worker in the thigh, which earned him three days of temporary interruption of work. The attacker also broke the window of the ambulance and tore off the rear-view mirror.

Facts strongly condemned by the Prefecture of Tarn-et Garonne, the SDIS 82, the ARS and even the Minister of Health, Aurélien Rousseau.

This Friday, November 3, the court therefore only ruled, during this short hearing, on his continued pre-trial detention. Although he apologized, the accused returned to prison. The president decided to send him back there in order to avoid any risk of repeat offenses.
