Viola Holt still vividly remembers the meeting with her husband Peter, 34 years ago.

“We were both in Cannes for work,” Viola tells Story. ‘(…) I ran into him in a bar one evening. I was single and two men standing at the bar tried to hit on me. I didn’t feel like that. But they kept going.’ Viola took neither man seriously. She did when she saw Peter walking past. ‘He listened to the men and said, ‘I’m going to go to the toilet and when I come back you’ll know who you’re going with. Then I thought: yes, that’s character!’
Wedding
‘Two years after we met, we got married on 21 June at Slot Zeist. A symbolic date. The longest day, the shortest night.’ At the time, no one gave Viola’s marriage a chance. (…) But Viola knew that Peter was the man she would grow old with and wanted to bear his name. ‘Before I met Peter, I had been with a clairvoyant. I believe in that. She told me that before my daughter’s fourteenth birthday, I would meet a man with whom I would stay for the rest of my life. And that happened. (…) So this love has been prophesied to me. And to this day we are very happy together. Now 34 years old.’
