The President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron was visiting, this Thursday, the Gustave-Roussy Institute, in Villejuif (Val-de-Marne). His coming was held as part of the world cancer day.
“Behind the figures, there are lives”
Emmanuel Macron visited at the Institut Gustave Roussy the onco-pediatrics department and the treatment research department. The President of the Republic presented on this occasion the “ten-year national strategy for the fight against cancer”, and announced that he was targeting a “tobacco-free generation” for those who will be 20 years old in 2030.
The President of the Republic declared:
“Behind figures that are often cold and impersonal, there are lives. Mourning that can be avoided. Families that can be rebuilt. Hope, for many patients. The recognition of a Nation for its caregivers and researchers. “
The mayor of the city, Pierre Garzon (PCF), had the opportunity to greet the president and discuss with him “the Campus Grand Parc project for which [il se] beats in the interest of global research and that of Villejuifois in terms of health, employment, training and housing ”.
President Emmanuel Macron had not been to the Val-de-Marne department since April 2020. At the heart of the coronavirus crisis and during the first confinement, the Head of State then went to the hospital Bicêtre, at the Kremlin-Bicêtre. A coming that did not fail to cause (several) controversies.
