Hanoi (VNA) – Cho Ray and Pediatrics 2 hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City have successfully performed cornea, kidney, heart and liver transplants for six patients thanks to organ donation from a 25-year-old girl.

On August 19, 2022, Cho Ray Hospital received information about the voluntary organ donation of the mother of a 25-year-old patient suffering from tuberculosis, seizures, severe head trauma and brain death.

In compliance with her daughter’s will, the mother decided to donate her baby’s body parts to people with serious illnesses.

“This is my daughter’s desire: to donate organs from her body to support the lives of other people. Therefore, although I love her very much, I carry out her will. I hope that in the other world she will be happy because she has helped so many other people ”, confided her mother.

Dr Nguyen Tri Thuc, director of Cho Ray Hospital, said doctors have reviewed and selected the list of patients registered for organ transplantation.

Organ transplants were performed successfully. On 9 September, two patients who received a kidney transplant and two other corneal transplants were re-examined with excellent results; while the heart transplant patient was about to be discharged.

As for the liver transplant patient, due to his serious illness, he is still in intensive care.

Sharing the unexpected “gift” of a cornea after three years of living in the dark, a cornea transplant patient said: “I am so happy to have regained the light so that I can find a job to take care of my family.” .

While the patient who received a donated kidney could not hold back her tears remembering her three years hemodialysis. She shared: “For the past three years, my life has been linked to the hospital. I have to undergo hemodialysis even during the holidays and Lunar New Year holidays.”

My family and I are very grateful to the donor for giving me and other patients a precious gift, helping us overcome difficulties and giving hope in life, she said.
