As we recall, this summer the Regional Health Agency (ARS) decided to “temporarily suspend” the orthopedic and trauma surgery department of the Vienna hospital to the chagrin of patients and caregivers forced to go to Lyon. But since then, the hospital hasn’t reopened despite an average of more than 1,300 operations performed each year. A collective that brings together trade unions, left-wing parties and associations calls for its rapid reopening.
The sanction fell on July 22, the day on which the Regional Health Agency announced that the orthopedic and trauma surgery department of the Vienna hospital was “temporarily suspended”. Small improvement, however, from 19 September: two days of weekly consultations are planned, but that’s enough.
The reasons for this brutal decision given by the ARS; “Significant malfunctions of a medical and regulatory nature”. Without saying more. But as during the closure of other services in other hospitals, such as for the “Emergencies” in Givors, the lack of resources, in particular human resources, is undoubtedly at the origin of this closure which is at the expense of a wide range of treatments. on the Agglo.

intends to fight for its reopening. “The public hospital belongs to its population and must meet its health needs, so we affirm that the orthopedic surgery activity must resume completely and immediately under the same conditions of care as the patient, or even more if necessary,” says this collective .
The two days of ongoing consultations, which have resumed, are provided by two surgeons from the trauma-orthopedics department of the Lyon-Sud hospital.
For its part, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) explains that it has “requested that the resumption of activity be carried out under the aegis of the Hospices Civils de Lyon, by qualified professionals”.
The ARS, of course, does not rule out a reopening, but this in its spirit could therefore only be thought of in a partnership with the Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL).
