VIDEO | “We no longer accept this”: education strikers still in the streets in Estrie

Members of the various education unions in Estrie will hold various picket activities until December 14, 2023.

“The teachers and nurses say no. The population says no. We no longer accept that,” said Myriam Pruneau, teacher at Collège Champlain Lennoxville.

Out of breath, they still stand with signs in the streets for the love of their profession.

“The members are tired. With the pay cuts before Christmas, no one is happy about that. We still believe in our cause. Very strongly, we are mobilized and we are also ready to go to an unlimited general strike in January,” explained Brigitte Robert, president of the SECCL.

The union members want to reach an agreement before Christmas, but not at any price.

“Each session, I don’t know if I’m going to have a task. It’s a heaviness that I carry but also my family, my partner and my children,” explained Ms. Pruneau.

“I think especially of the conditions of my young colleagues. There is an imbalance compared to what I experienced when I was their age,” underlined Jacques St-Pierre, a teacher for 30 years at Collège Champlain Lennoxville.
