VIDEO. View from the sky: after the hailstorm, the Gironde heals its wounds

The suburbs of Bordeaux are gradually being rebuilt after the hailstorm that destroyed many homes and cars on Monday evening June 20.

From the sky, the cities of Saint-Médard-en-Jalles and Haillan become plastic. Large blue and green tarpaulins cover the roofs of houses damaged by hail. Protections, held by tiles, put in place by the firefighters, who carry out more than 700 interventions per day.

For two days, it is therefore on the roofs that the activities are concentrated. Many inhabitants change the tiles, redo the waterproofing of their roof. They are the luckiest, others wait, with only these large canvases which sometimes recall advertising billboards for protection, that the overbooked craftsmen give them an appointment.

Like the firefighters, they have been hard at work for two days, juggling between ever-growing order books and raw materials that are still in short supply.

Damage which should also remain visible for many weeks on the photovoltaic panels which have flourished for several years on the roofs of the Bordeaux conurbation. On the black squares, the impacts are omnipresent, as witnesses of the violence of the storm.

Lower down, the tarpaulins also serve as makeshift windshields, the old ones, made of glass, having been shattered by hailstones the size of a golf ball.

Protect themselves from the rain, the wind, the inhabitants of these municipalities know it: the long work of reconstruction has only just begun.
