Video: Tesla’s China Gigafactory from the inside

While Tesla’s production in the United States is largely still due to the corona virus, electric cars have been back in the company’s new China plant for several weeks. Numerous videos of the construction progress of the Shanghai factory, which opened at the beginning of the year, have been published, but pictures from inside have so far been rare. For the first time, a video gives a more detailed insight into the manufacturing facility.

At that on YouTube The uploaded clip is, according to the publisher, an official video from Tesla. As usual with the “Gigafactories” of the US manufacturer, you can see a large plant with several areas, stations, conveyor belts and numerous production robots as well as other machines and systems. Human personnel only appear to be used on a larger scale during final assembly.

The factory in China, also called Gigafactory 3, is the first location of its kind outside of Tesla’s home market. The plant was hoisted in record time: less than a year after the start of construction, electric cars could already be delivered. However, the full size will only be reached in a few years, as Tesla lets its Gigafactories grow modularly in several sections.

Production in China started with the mid-range car Model 3 as well as the associated drive components and battery packs. The new SUV Model Y has also recently been manufactured. How many electric cars are currently rolling off the assembly line per month is not known. According to media reports, there are 3000 Stromer per week, which would correspond to Tesla’s target of 150,000 units in the first phase over the year. Later, 500,000 vehicles are expected to be built in China each year.

In addition to the production of electric cars, Tesla plans to set up a design and development center in China. Another electric car is to be designed there for the global market.
