On Saturday night, Cody Stamann unanimously won a UFC Preliminary Round bout against Brian Kelleher. Stamann fought with all his heart. He had a reason: his brother, 18-year-old featherweight fighter Jacob Stamann, died on May 27. The cause of Jacob’s death has not yet been revealed.

Despite the fact that his brother had died a little over a week ago, Stamann decided to jump into the octagon. In an ESPN interview earlier in the week, Stamann said: “I thought about it and asked myself: Would my brother want me to? This is something very important for my family, important for many people who are close to my family. Who would it be if you said: ‘This is too much. I can’t do my job. ’ Many people have to continue with their jobs despite the things they are experiencing. I am very privileged to have a professional career as an athlete, to have the family that I have, to have all these things. ”

Stamann played an incredible featherweight bout against Kelleher, dominating most of the bout and winning by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Joe Rogan was thrilled in the interview after the match with Stamann

The tears continued after Stamann’s match with Joe Rogan. After Stamann raised his fist in the center of the octagon, he went backstage to do an interview with Joe Rogan. Because of the anti-COVID-19 measures in Nevada, post-match interviews must be conducted outside the octagon to maintain safe distances.

This is a fragment of the interview:

Rogan began the interview by congratulating Stamann on his “incredible composure” during the match and for being able to deliver such a memorable performance in his circumstances. Rogan asked Stamann to explain what the experience had been like.

A very excited Stamann replied: “It has been hard. It has been very hard. I have been fighting tears all day, trying to maintain integrity. It is a very hard time for me. I have to get up and be a man. I have to do it for my brother, for my family and for me. Briah Kelleher, thank you for stepping out into the Octagon today and for giving us this fight. ”

Rogan, with tears in his eyes, replied: “Thank you for going out to fight and for your great performance. Thanks for this amazing character show. We appreciate you so much. Our condolences for your family and thanks for everything. ”

Stamann won his 19th fight at UFC 250

With this win over Kelleher on Saturday night at UFC 250, Stamann improved his professional balance in the martial arts with a 19-2-1. 6 wins have been by KO or per TKO, two by submission and 11 by technical decision.

In the subsequent interview with Rogan, Stamann said he was interested in fighting again in the bantamweight category.
