VIDEO: Ostrava Airport is again in the center of attention. A rare plane landed here on Sunday

On Sunday, April 11, Ostrava Airport checked in a rare Ilyushin Il-62 aircraft of the Belarusian company Rada Airlines. Apart from the North Korean and Russian squadrons, this is the last one to operate this historical type.

The 35-year-old EW-450TR registration aircraft showed up in Ostrava after five years, arriving from Belarus as part of a charter cargo flight in which the carrier specializes.

Also remember in our photo gallery below the landing of the transport giant in 2010 in Ostrava, which was the Ilyushin IL 76. It arrived for a multi-ton cargo – for two oil pipeline valves, which were manufactured by MSA from Dolní Benešov.

Iljušin Il-62 is a Soviet transport jet aircraft, which at the time of its first flight was the largest jet transport aircraft in the world.

The machine was created at the request of securing long-distance lines of Aeroflot. It has four engines at the rear, two on each side of the fuselage. The first prototype took off in 1963 and the aircraft appeared in the number of fifteen pieces in the fleet of the then Czechoslovak Airlines, which allowed the opening of long-distance flights to New York and Montreal.

Two of the CSA aircraft bore the symbolic names “Ostrava” and “Vítkovice” for our region.
