Video: In Illinois a chemical plant burns, an area shrouded in thick smoke

A fire broke out in Rockton, Illinois, on Monday at a chemical plant. The area was shrouded in thick smoke. Firefighters fought the element overnight. Authorities advised some Rockton residents not to ventilate during the fire, the agency said AP.

The burning started at 7 o’clock in the morning local time, the cause is not yet known. Before the arrival of firefighters, 70 employees were evacuated from the factory. According to the company, no one was injured. Rescuers record only one slightly injured firefighter.

American station CNN she said that some charred debris fell into the area and caused small branch fires.

The commander of the intervening fire brigade Kirk Wilson said that the air quality is normal and is constantly monitored. However, the authorities recommended covering the airways so that people would not inhale fumes.

Wilson also added that the fire could burn for several more days. A one-mile evacuation circuit was therefore created around the burning factory, adds CNN.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker later announced that the evacuation area around the factory was increasing from one mile to three.
