VIDEO. Bol.com leaves a package at the front door… but garbage men see it as old paper: “There was a moment of silence on the other side of the line” | halle

HalleWe have undoubtedly all had loads of parcels delivered by Bol.com. Are not you home? Then they usually leave it in a safe place or you can get it at the post office afterwards. But in some cases they just leave the package in front of the door. Then you’re out of luck when it gets stolen… What’s worse than that? How about this: your package is collected by the garbage men who come to collect paper.

It reminds us a bit of the ‘my dog ate my homework’ excuse. But with Sascha Van Stichel (29) from Halle it was anything but an excuse. The package from Bol.com had been delivered, but there was nothing to be found. When the CCTV footage was requested, a hilarious discovery was made. “We saw a man who delivered our package and left it at the door since no one was home,” says Sascha. “We received a notification that our package had been delivered. Coincidentally, it was just a paper collection day in Halle. Not much later than the courier, the garbage cart followed. Our paper was outside on the sidewalk as usual, the package from Bol.com was on the stairs of our front door. Without thinking about it, our package was just taken away by the garbage men…”

Compensation

Almost immediately Sascha contacted Bol.com customer service. “I called to report the problem, but there was still silence on the other end of the line,” he continues. “I had to send them the footage as proof. They sent the package back the same day. Bol.com will eventually fight it out with PostNL who should pay what. Luckily it was ‘just’ cat litter. But it could also have been a laptop or something like that. Despite the situation, I can see the fun in it.”

Sascha posted the self-edited video on social media and could already count on dozens of reactions. Yes, even Bol.com itself responded to the message. “We admit, this is very sour. If you have not yet received a suitable solution, please let us know via a private message. Then of course we will go after it,” it sounds. Fortunately, the incident was solved and Sascha can laugh about it herself.

UPDATE. “If you want it even more absurd: the new cat litter has just arrived and is already at the front door…”, says Sascha on Friday afternoon. ah…
