VIDEO ⟩ In Ziepniekalna, the police use firearms to arrest an aggressive car driver

On the morning of March 17, the police crew of the Riga municipality received information about the driver of the “Audi” car, who is probably under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances. At the indicated address, the police officers observed a vehicle matching the description, the driver of which, upon noticing the law enforcement officers, quickly began to drive in reverse. Municipal police officers called the driver to stop the car.

However, the driver continued driving until he entered a T-junction, reversed to the right and stopped. As the police officer ran up to the offender’s car to open its door and repeatedly ordered it to stop, the driver began to flee in reverse in an attempt to leave the scene.

In order to prevent a possible danger to others and to stop the driver’s escape attempt, the police officer used his service firearm, firing several shots at the tires of the vehicle, shooting them through.

This did not cool down the aggressive offender and he continued to run away. After fleeing for a few minutes, the driver drove into the yard of an apartment building, where he was forced to stop because he had lost two tires on the way.

Even then, the driver still tried to run into the stairwell of a house, but he did not succeed, because the law enforcement officers, using a stun gun and physical force, detained the aggressive man.

When checking personal data, it became clear that the man does not have a valid driver’s license. Considering the circumstances of the incident, the Emergency Medical Service and the State Police crew arrived at the scene and took over the work at the address.

After that, the municipal police officers handed over the arrested person to the law enforcement officers of the State Police for further procedural actions.
