VIDEO ⟩ A person fell under a train at the Riga railway station last night

The video shows how employees of the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) and the State Fire and Rescue Service are working on the train.

NMPD states that on April 11 at At 23:39, a call was received to the scene of the accident at the Riga railway station. NMPD medics together with VUGD rescuers provided assistance to one injured person. The victim was taken to a medical institution in a serious condition, accompanied by a specialist team of the NMPD doctor. Two NMPD medical teams worked at the scene of the accident.

Officials regularly ask both adults to remember safety near the tracks and parents to regularly discuss the rules with their children when they are near the railway, especially if the daily route includes crossing or moving along the railway tracks.

“It is important for road users to be aware that when they are near the railway, all attention must be paid to safety – it is imperative to remove the headphones from the ears in order to be able to hear what is happening around them. Similarly, smart devices must be put down in order to be able to pay full attention to the safe road.”

The State Police also states that “it is important to take into account the fact that the braking distance of a train is much longer than that of passenger cars; even if the train driver has noticed the danger on the railway tracks in time, this does not mean that the train will have time to brake. Therefore, officials indicate that before crossing the tracks, you have to check whether it can be done safely, whether the crossing is closed, or whether a train is approaching”.
