In Lviv On April 4, as a result of complications of the coronavirus, the famous artist, winner of the Lesya Ukrainka State Prize Viktoria Kovalchuk, died.

The director at the People’s House of Vinniks, Miroslava Sidor, announced this on Facebook.

«Today in Lviv the famous Lviv artist Victoria Kovalchuk rested from the merciless covid – an incredibly talented, bright, sympathetic, caring person, a beautiful and very kind woman … It’s hard to believe and accept … Lviv became poorer by another generous, unique talent. It’s a pity and painful, ”wrote Sidor.

Victoria Kovalchuk herself reported on March 26 that her whole family was sick with covid: her mother, herself and her son. Victoria’s son wrote on her Facebook page that she had been in intensive care since Thursday, April 1.

Victoria Kovalchuk is a Ukrainian graphic artist. She worked in the following directions: book graphics, easel graphics, poster, design, stage costume and the like. She was born in Kovel, lived and worked in Lvov. She has designed about 200 books of various genres, including more than 30 books for children.

The artist developed the original design of the Ukrainian Primer, which received a 1st degree diploma at the All-Ukrainian competition The art of the book (2000) and was named the best book of the year. The primer went through nine reprints with a total circulation of more than 200 thousand copies.

For four years the artist worked on a book dedicated to folk dress Ukrainian system. Collected field material throughout the country, developed an original concept for popular science illustrations. The book was published in 2000 in an exclusive edition, in 2001 it was recognized as the best book of the year.

Victoria Kovalchuk is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize named after I. Lesia Ukrainka and the Literary Prize named after Olena Pchilki, diploma winner of republican and all-union competitions Art of the book, international art exhibitions.

In addition, she is the author of books About the fairy Dorotheus (Little stories for young children), Travel with an Overnight (Buchach through the eyes of Shmuel Agnon), Caterpillar Motya, war and love – A true tale, The tale of a raven who wanted to remain black.
