Azarenka had expressed her dismay at the war earlier in the month. “It is heartbreaking to see how many innocent people have been and will continue to be affected by this violence,” she wrote on Twitter.

During the Indian Wells tournament, Azarenka made a plea for more humanity at a press conference. “One thing that’s missing in the world is mutual compassion and empathy,” said the former world number one. She lives these two values very consciously.
The most important thing is “to take care of each individual. That’s what life is about. I know that sometimes it’s wishful thinking, but the basis of humanity should not be lost in any conflict. Violence is never justified anyway, and it will be I don’t think it will ever be either. I hope that we can do more to prevent conflict in the world.”
