We get back to New York (United States) with several days to visit the novelties that the city always has to offer, since last year we only spent a few hours on a long stopover. The first activity we did this time was visit the new RiseNY attraction.
This space tells us a bit about the history of New York City from different aspects and ends with a Disney Soarin’ type attraction.
Let’s go into the details of our visit to RiseNY.
Location
The attraction is located in the middle of Times Square. Obviously, the best option to get there is by metro or simply walking given the amount of traffic in the area.
The exact address is 160 W 45th St, New York, NY 10036, USA.
Tickets and schedules
The cost of admission to the attraction/museum is US$34 for adults and US$30 for children ages 3-12. It is recommended that you buy it on their website, since you indicate the day and time of the visit, thus avoiding long lines and wasting time in a city where you need to take advantage of every minute.
According to its website, it is open from Sunday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed Tuesday) and on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The place
We went in winter and, as the first row is outside, we recommend bringing a coat. If you are interested, there is a place to leave it and walk lightly during the visit.
From there, we will move on to the first part of the attraction, in which a bit of the story is developed and told with a video simulating being in a subway car in the year 1904.
Leaving that place, we will go through 7 thematic galleries. Each one is set on themes such as music, movies, shows, fashion, etc.
Obviously everything is related to New York City.
The place and the objects exhibited are very interesting and striking. In addition, they tell the history of the city from different points of view, including the social context to understand what happened.
The last part of the visit is getting on a chair where you can feel the sensation of flying through the city of New York at 10 meters high on a 180º screen. First you will have to leave your things in the lockers.
The quality of the projected video is excellent, allowing you to see the city from a unique perspective, as well as experience its sounds and smells. Unfortunately it is not possible to film or take photos, so you will have to visit it to see it.
On the way out, you can go through the gift shop and return to the heart of Times Square in the Big Apple.
we visited RiseNY not really knowing what we would be in for and honestly we were surprised. The tour took us about an hour and we were able to enjoy the attraction from start to finish. Without a doubt, it is one more thing to add to your list of places to visit in New York.
