VfL Bochum lost their home game against RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga 0-1 (0-0). The goal came just before the end of the game.
The previous Bundesliga-Balance sheet of VfL Bochum against RB Leipzig was extremely humble. Because so far, VfL has not scored a point against Leipzig. The record before the game on Sunday: six games, six bankruptcies at 2:15 goals. In the first leg there was a 0:3 after it had been 0:0 for a long time.
And even in the 7th attempt there was nothing for VfL to get. A courageous performance – with the best chances – was not rewarded in the 0:1 (0:0) defeat. The goal came just before the end: Christopher Nkunku (82nd) scored the goal.
About the game: VfL coach Thomas Rice made four changes compared to the 1-1 draw at VfB Stuttgart. Eduard Löwen, Elvis Rexhbeçaj, Takuma Asano and Sebastian Polter started for Gerrit Holtmann, Jürgen Locadia, Christopher Antwi-Adjei and Patrick Osterhage.

After the change, VfL had their first real opportunity. The ball came through Polter and Asano to Milos Pantovic, who shot over the goal from 14 meters from the best position (57th). Now it was lively. On the other hand, Cristian Gamboa frittered away the ball against Emil Forsberg, who found André Silva, who just missed (67′). Three minutes later, VfL again with the opportunity to take the lead. But after a corner, captain Anthony Losilla failed to hit the crossbar.
In the 77th minute, the VfL fans had two goals screaming on their lips. What a double chance for the hosts. First, Antwi-Adjei failed from four meters with a head on the post. The rebound landed on Löwen, who shot, but Willi Orban saved from the line with his body. That took revenge four minutes later when RB Leipzig countered to make it 1-0.
And as so often it was Christopher Nkunku, Leipzig’s best player of the season, who finished perfectly. The guest took the lead over time, VfL could not reward themselves for a good performance.
