Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel expressed his sadness after qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix, round 18 of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship.
Qualification report: Verstappen the fastest
Sebastian Vettel had announced, a few months ago, his retirement and his departure from the Formula 1 world championship at the end of the current season.
With the return of Formula 1 to Suzuka, where Vettel is famous for his many successes, most notably winning the Drivers’ World Championship for the second time in his career in 2011, the German was thrilled after qualifying.
Vettel shined in his last session at Suzuka, qualifying in the top ten with a modest Aston Martin, and was clearly excited and happy afterwards.

Vettel said: “No, I don’t regret retiring. But laps like this make me, I don’t want to say that I regret it because I can’t wait for what will happen in my life, but I’m a little sad that this was my last qualifying session at Suzuka ”.
He continued: “Qualifying at this circuit is different, because the race is seeing more fuel and a different driving style, with the need to maintain a lot of systems, the engine and the tires.. But, in the qualifying sessions, we can fly ”.
He added: “Well, I’m behind on pole, but the car performs well with very little petrol and new tires ”.
He continued: “Don’t look at the times and the grid, because I feel equally happy with the fastest laps I completed for the last time today.. I love this place, I love this arena, I feel alive here. “While I was wrestling with the car, overcoming those fast corners in the first segment, I smile big on every lap.”
