Di Maio stated that Hojlund could feel the rigors of football if he had been in his career for 15 years.
Veteran San Marino defender Roberto di Maio criticized Denmark and Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund for complaining about the opponent’s back line in a Euro 2024 qualifying match.
In the match which Denmark won with a score of 2-1, Hojlund was targeted by San Marino players. In his statement after the match, the San Marino players should have received a red card. Hojlund even accused the San Marino players of rough play as if they intended to end his career as a professional footballer.

Di Maio also responded to Hojlund’s statement. This 41 year old defender said that Hojlund’s gesture in celebrating Denmark’s first goal in the 42nd minute was seen as making fun of San Marino.
According to Di Maio, the 20 year old player also tried to get a penalty several times. Apart from that, Di Maio considers physical contact in football matches to be normal. Di Maio also commented on the player who was brought in by United for €75 million via his social media account.
“Today I read ‘Mr 80 million’ complaining because yesterday he received poor treatment from the San Marino defenders,” Di Maio wrote on his account. Instagram personally quoted on the page GiveMeSport.

The victory over San Marino opened up Denmark’s opportunity to qualify for the 2024 European Cup finals. They are now in second place in Group H standings after collecting 19 points, the same as leaders Slovene. There are still two matches remaining in this group.
