Vestfoldbanen and Arendalsbanen Closed Due to Heavy Snow: Sørlandsbanen Prioritized

Vestfoldbanen still closed between Holmestrand and Tønsberg.

– We are working on clearing so that unless something very special happens, Vestfoldbanen will be ready for ordinary traffic tomorrow morning, says press officer Harry Korslund in Bane Nor.

He adds that he must take precautions about the weather and advises travelers to check travel information on the train companies’ websites.

Prioritizing Sørlandsbanen

The Arendalsbanen between Nerlaug and Arendal is also closed due to a lot of snow.

It will not be opened at 05.00 Tuesday at the earliest, but Korslund says that they do not prioritize cleaning it.

– We have made a decision to prioritize the Sørlandsbanen considering that the consequences will be much greater there, says Korslund.

On Monday evening, Sørlandsbanen is open, but according to YR large amounts of snow are expected in Agder for the next day and a half.

– I cannot issue guarantees for anything, because the weather conditions we have now are so demanding, says Korslund.

to keep Sørlandsbanen passable throughout the next 24 hours,

Everyday traffic starts on Tuesday

In the Oslo area, everyday life after the Christmas holidays starts on Tuesday morning.

Ruter Gro Janborg’s press officer says that it is a little unclear how tomorrow will unfold.

– There have been major challenges throughout the day, but conditions have improved on the central lines this evening, she says.

Janborg says that, of course, he keeps a close eye on the weather and is concerned that it is plowed as well as possible.

– That is what is decisive for us to be able to drive, she says.

Late Monday night, the company sent out a press release where they ask travelers to allow plenty of time.

– It has been reported that there may be a lot of snow also on the night of 2 January, which may affect public transport in Oslo and Akershus. Ruter is planning for normal operations, but encourages travelers to plan ahead, writes Ruter.
