In the spring of 2023, the Véo Grand Central cinema received encouraging news: IDEAT magazine ranked it on the list of the “10 most beautiful cinemas in the world”, appreciating a reasoned approach through the construction technique of rammed earth (raw earth coming from ‘a nearby site), “the local and artisanal character of the implementation reinforcing the human dimension of the reception areas”.
Beyond this recognition, the public of Grand Central, certainly very mainly sensitive to the character and the comfort of the place, is obviously at least as much to its programming: thus, at the end of June, Grand Central counted 267,000 admissions since its opening. (October 2021), including 94,000 since January 1, 2023: an increase in attendance of 39% compared to 2022 (the national average being 25%). The cinema undoubtedly owes this very significant development to its diversified programming (including more than 35% of “Art and Essay” films), to the numerous screenings reserved for schools, colleges and high schools, to cinema-tea parties, cinema-meetings of actors or directors with the public, but also to the partnerships developed with the City and several associations. “We are listening to any request”, emphasizes Pierre Marcel, its director. Thus, in March, the Colomiers Press Play Festival was a resounding success! The previews, the Ciné-Théâtre or Unipop sessions (Pessac or Colomiers), find their audience: for example, the room was full at the preview of the film “Pour l’honneur”, as for the Unipop session ” Caravaggio”. Of course, the big productions regularly fill up, but a more austere film like “I will always see your faces”, for example, also filled the rooms!
The summer proved to be just as satisfactory in terms of attendance: after the Fête de la Musique and the Fête du Cinéma, a well-stocked summer program maintained cinema attendance. The start of the new school year promises to be still “hot”, despite the gentle air conditioning of the rooms and the restaurant-tea room (open every day, with brunch on Sundays)!
