News from the NOS

Upon Sinterklaas’ arrival in Venlo this year, only sooty wipes are present for the first time, says the Sinterklaas Municipal Committee. The move follows after action group Kick Out Zwarte Piet (KOZP) announced a demonstration why the Gray Piets would be joining Venlo this year.

Two years ago in Venlo the pity gray introduced. The organization thought it had found a neutral solution for Zwarte Piet. For the arrival of this year, soot wipes and gray piets would do it gift in Venlo and in the Venlo district of Blerick. According to the committee, this was a smooth transition.

As KOZP finds Gray Petes a racist fictional solution, the action group announced a rally on entry day next Sunday.

Mature time

According to the organization, the time has come to switch to soot wipes, as has already happened in many other places. “Children will see the same Piet in Venlo and Blerick next Sunday as on the Sinterklaas news,” says Joep Raemakers, president of Stichting Kinderfeesten Venlo.

Mayor Antoin Scholten van Venlo hopes it’s a quiet day. “I appreciate the efforts that have been made to make the Sinterklaas party truly for all children.” According to 1Linburgh Venlo is the last major municipality in Limburg to switch to soot wipes.

The local action group “Venlo can do it” is happy that the demonstration does not have to continue. However, the action group hopes “that other surrounding cores can also switch to a soot wipe and start working on it. That this will give support to take steps towards the soot wipes.”
