Veni Vici Trail and Run Event: A Day of Runners and Hikers in Gard

At the same time, the departures for the other courses (trail, run, hike) are, today, Saturday November 11, given on the left bank of Pont-du-Gard.

From early morning, there were hundreds of them warming up on Avenue Jean-Jaurès, jogging, stretching, before massing on the starting line, in the central alley of the Jardins de la Fontaine. At 8:30 a.m., to the applause of the public, 600 runners set off for the 72 kilometers of the Veni Vici, a race giving pride of place to history and heritage. At 9:30 a.m., it was the turn of the 1,000 participants of the 44 kilometers to leave, heading towards Pont-du-Gard.

Through the splendid landscapes of Gard

Because it is indeed around the Roman aqueduct that this event, organized by Yes We Run and Denim running, was designed. On the program for the 72 kilometer trail, an exit from Nîmes via the northern hills, a crossing of the Mas d’Escattes and the Garrigue scrubland, the discovery of the castles of Cabrières and Lédenon, a passage through the underground tunnels of Sernhac, then heading towards the quarries of Vers-Pont-du-Gard, Argilliers, Saint-Maximin, before approaching the Eure valley, where the aqueduct draws its source, and arriving in the streets of Uzès. The 44 km will arrive at the foot of Pont-du-Gard.

Between friends, it’s more fun!

Enough to delight history lovers like the centurion Mimi La Bolide who came to run the Veni Vici with her “darling, JP the Phénix” and their twenty friends from the km 42 club in Limoges. “It’s the first time we’ve come to this great course. It’s our trip of the year,” smiles the lively runner, armed with a sword, at the start of the Jardins de la Fontaine. “We’re going to be at background and we’re going to be amazed! And then, there are courses for all athletes.”

After the 72 and 44 kilometers, the 27 kilometer run leaves from the left bank of Pont-du-Gard at 2:30 p.m. with an arrival in Uzès. Nordic walking (also 27 kilometers) always leaves from the left bank at 1 p.m., direction Uzès. The 13 kilometer run, starting at 1 p.m., makes a loop around the aqueduct. Finally, the 13-kilometer hike, open to children from the age of 7, leaves at 10 a.m. from Pont-du-Gard: it offers a discovery, particularly for families, of the site classified as a UNESCO world heritage site. .
