Vélez beats River in Libertadores and leaves… Enzo Fernández closer to Luz – Benfica

Argentine midfielder played the full 90 minutes in the defeat (1-0) in the first leg of the ‘eighths’

Vélez prevailed in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores round of 16 over River Plate. Playing at home, the Sarsfield team won 1-0, with the only goal being scored from the penalty spot, in the 15th minute, by Janson. Despite the gambling expenses assumed by the millionaires, it was Vélez who came close to increasing the savings several times, especially in the second half, with particular emphasis on Osorio’s shot at the post at 90’+4. In goal, Franco Armani shone with a couple of interventions in the second half and avoided bigger problems. So, whoever is closest to Lisbon… is Enzo Fernández. The Argentine midfielder, Benfica’s future reinforcement, will travel to Luz as soon as he is eliminated from Libertadores. Now, River now needs to win at home, on Wednesday (Thursday morning in Portugal), so as not to fall at this stage.

Enzo Fernández was a starter in Gallardo’s team and played the full 90 minutes.
