In the sixth game of the second round of the NHL playoffs, the Vegas hockey players won 5:2 on the ice of Edmonton and advanced to the finals of the Western Conference. Jonathan Marchessault led the Golden Knights’ fourth win with a hat trick. Vegas advanced to the Stanley Cup semifinals for the fourth time in the club’s six-year history.
The match started at a thrilling pace. Not even three minutes had passed and Edmonton was leading 2-1. The Oilers answered Vegas’ opening goal 24 seconds into the game with two goals. Even in the first minute, the most productive player of the playoffs, Connor McDavid, equalized and Warren Foegele turned the score around.
The second period belonged to Marchessault. The Canadian forward scored three goals in 14 minutes and completed his second hat trick in the knockout stages. He rounded the point gain in the current playoff to ten points.
In the final act, Edmonton staved off elimination. He outshot his opponents 13:5, but none of the Oilers players were able to beat Adin Hill in the Vegas goal. In the end, however, the Golden Knights added a fifth goal. In Edmonton’s risk without a goalie, William Karlsson sealed Vegas’ progress.
In the Western Conference finals, the Golden Knights will face one of Dallas and Seattle. The seventh game, which is played on Tuesday night, will decide the progress. If Seattle advances, the two youngest clubs in the NHL would meet.
