VeeKay forced to forfeit Road America

Rinus Veekay will not be able to hold his place this weekend during the IndyCar round scheduled on the Road America circuit this weekend (June 20).

Accident during a bike training two days ago, the Dutchman, 5th in the general classification, has successfully undergone surgery but he will not be sufficiently recovered to race this Sunday in Wisconsin.

Ed Carpenter Racing, which fielded the 20-year-old rider, turned to Oliver Askew to replace his damaged driver in the No 21 Chevrolet.

The American was already on the bridge last weekend in Detroit to replace Swede Felix Rosenqvist at Arrow McLaren SP after his violent crash during the first race organized on the Belle Isle Circuit.

« First of all, I hope Rinus is well and wish him a speedy recovery, Askew commented. I would like to thank Ed and the ECR team for their trust. I’ll do my best to help them this weekend at Road America ».

VeeKay, who earned his first career victory last month in Indianapolis, will take further exams before the next round, scheduled for July 4 at Mid-Ohio.
