Despite the victory over Resende, the Botafogo ends the tenth and penultimate round of the Carioca Championship outside the G-4. That’s because, in the game that closed on Sunday, the Vasco won the Flamengo 1-0 at Maracanã, with a goal by Pumita Rodríguez.
With the result, Vasco resumed third place, with 20 points. Botafogo, with 19 points, is fifth, behind round roundwhich also has 19 points – Voltaço, however, has a better goal difference: 12 against 8 for Botafogo.
In the last round, Botafogo will face Portuguesa, Thursday, at 7:30 pm, in Volta Redonda, while Vasco will receive Bangu in São Januário at the same time. Earlier, at 3:30 pm, Volta Redonda visits Boavista in Saquarema.
It is important to emphasize that not even the Fluminense, runner-up with 22 points, is classified – Flamengo is the only one guaranteed in the semifinals. Tricolor will be eliminated if they lose to Rubro-Negro in the last round and Vasco, Volta Redonda and Botafogo win – the latter also need to discount the difference in the balance.
Scenarios for Botafogo to qualify:
– Beat Portuguesa and hope Vasco or Volta Redonda do not win, regardless of the balance;
– Beat Portuguesa and, in case of victories by Vasco and Volta Redonda, discount the goal difference in relation to Voltaço;
– Beat Portuguesa, if Vasco and Volta Redonda win, cheer for Fluminense to be thrashed by Flamengo and still cash in the balance;
– If they draw with Portuguesa, they will only advance if Volta Redonda loses to Boavista.
