WETSENS – A van completely burned out on the N361 near Wetsens on Tuesday around noon. Due to the fire, traffic between Dokkum and Metslawier was stopped for a while.
The fire was accompanied by enormous clouds of smoke that could be seen in the wide area for fifteen minutes.
Extinguishing by Ternaard team
The Ternaard fire brigade eventually arrived on site to extinguish the fire. The fire was reported to the emergency services at 1 p.m. The driver escaped unscathed.
Attendance problem
The Dokkum fire brigade was initially paged at 1:01 PM for the fire. After seven minutes it became clear that no commander was available. The Ternaard fire brigade was then alerted and rushed to the scene. The Dokkumer fire team never returned to the scene.
