The Van Der Hoeven forensic psychiatric center in Utrecht has summarily dismissed an employee. The employee was found in a patient’s room outside working hours. “This is contrary to our integrity policy and damages the trust of colleagues and patients,” the clinic writes. It is not known what the employee was doing in the patient’s room.

According to Van der Hoeven, an external investigation has been started and the various inspectorates and the judiciary have been informed.

Employees and patients spend a lot of time together, but according to the clinic, the professional boundary should never be crossed. “If someone crosses that line, trust is damaged and there is no longer a professional treatment and working relationship,” the TBS clinic said.

In 2012, an employee of the same clinic was convicted of helping a patient escape. She was sentenced to 240 hours of community service and a 4-month suspended prison sentence.
