If you’ve been waiting for the new version of Steam Deck, you’ll have to be patient. The premiere of the equipment will not take place very soon.

At least that’s what Pierre-Loup Griffais, one of the designers working at Valve, said. He recently gave an interview to the portal The Verge, during which he confirmed that Steam Deck will not be getting a new version anytime soon. What is the main reason for this decision?
It turns out that the company does not want to introduce major changes so that it does not result in increased energy consumption and, consequently, shorter battery life.
It is important to us that Steam Deck offers developers consistent performance, so that the message to customers is simple: every Steam Deck user can play the same games. Performance gains cannot be underestimated, but we only want to do so if they are significant. We don’t want this to come at the expense of energy efficiency and battery life. I don’t expect this to happen in the next few years, but we continue to monitor developments in architecture and production processes to see where this is headed.
Although Griffais’ comment on this topic may sadden people waiting for a more efficient version of Steam Deck, it is still important to remember that the hardware may undergo further versions. Valve may follow Nintendo’s direction and release an improved version of its device.
