Valve releases Windows drivers for Steam Deck – Gaming – News

Linux is not a gaming OS

But neither is windows, windows and an ubuntu or fedora are general purpose OSs that can be used for gaming, among other things. SteamOS, on the other hand, is more of a “gaming OS”, as it has been adapted for use on the handheld.

Now you can say that more games run on windows, but that would be like arguing that the playstation OS is not a “gaming OS” because it runs 100x less games than on a desktop x86 linux distro.

A stripped-down Windows OS

You can say a lot about desktop windows, but decent customizability (as you would want something like this to work well on a handheld) is not a strength, while this is just a huge plus of the linux kernel (you do with it what you want). And I doubt you’re going to get any games working on the non-desktop windows derivatives.

I suspect that the majority will move very quickly to an open, non-craft OS where all games are supported.

Getting Windows up and running and fiddling with non-handheld optimized launchers is going to be 1000x more tinkering than just buying and playing a “verified” game in steamOS.
