Valve Quietly Releases Counter-Strike 2: A New Era Begins

Without fanfare, without prior enticement in the form of deductions or other usual marketing practices, developers from Valve released Counter-Strike 2 last night. The game has been available to players in a technical test for months, it has been changed and improved very regularly, and in recent days it has become more and more all the more obvious that the official release is imminent. In the end, everything happened as a small shadow-drop along with a trailer and a short announcement.

The short video acts as a quick cross-section of the past, from the unforgettable beginnings to the e-sports era. Within it, Counter-Strike 2 will write a new chapter and it will be interesting to see what the pros will bring to the game with new options. But of course anyone can play the game anyway, without major restrictions. CS2 is available for free, however, for a one-time payment of 14 euros, you can activate the so-called primary status, guaranteeing, for example, joining matches only with other paying players, or some rewards.

As for the distribution of the game, everything is going in line with how the selected players got to CS2 in the technical test. The new game installs as an upgrade to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, but with one important change. You can no longer select the desired version before launching. In other words, CS:GO can no longer be downloaded, installed, or played. It is probably the interest of the developers not to operate the game, which can no longer or do not want to provide support, but not all players are satisfied with this decision.

The situation is also unpleasant due to the fact that only the original page for Global Offensive has been renamed on Steam, even the release date is still listed as August 21, 2012, and the user rating has also been preserved. At first glance, it may seem that CS2 has already managed to rate 7.5 million players, which does not look exactly “clean”. The common history on the page is also confusing, for example, because it gives the impression of constant availability of CS:GO, specifically the mention of the paid primary status, which according to Valve should apply to both versions of the game. It is, of course, a question of how the developers will continue to proceed, or whether CS:GO will return, but for the moment it is true that a new era of one of the most popular shooters really begins.
