Valve gives Steam Deck docking station three USB 3.1 ports and gigabit ethernet – Gaming – News

Valve has upgraded the Steam Deck docking station. Instead of two USB 2.0 ports and a USB 3.1 port, it now has three USB 3.1 ports. Valve also clarifies the specs of the Ethernet port: it can handle gigabit speeds.

Revealing the upgrade took place somewhere in between 22 in 25 February, according to Wayback Machine archives. Valve has seemingly made no announcement about it; it can only be seen on the Steam Deck webpage, which has left it unnoticed until now.

The upgrade of the two USB ports will mainly offer a solution for users with multiple external storage media. The speed goes from 480 megabits per second to ten gigabits per second with the protocol upgrade. However, the speeds of the USB and Ethernet ports will not only be of value for Steam games. After all, the handheld can run any operating system the user wants, including other variants of Linux and Windows 10 and 11.

The first Steam Decks are already in consumer hands. Those who order a Deck now could have it in their hands by October 2022 “or later,” according to Valve. The Steam Deck Dock should be available sometime this spring, for an as yet undisclosed price. Tweakers has a review made from the Steam Deck, including video.
