The 100 lei banknote from Ceaușescu’s time came to be worth a fortune. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the interest of collectors and enthusiasts of old and rare objects, and Romanians who had old banknotes at home took advantage of the opportunity.
An example is the famous 100 lei banknote from 1966, which was recently put up for sale by a man from Oradea, at a high price. The banknote with Bălcescu’s face, from 1966, can be bought for 1,000 lei. “100 lei banknote from the year 1966, in very good condition, delivery only in Oradea, I do not send by post”, the respective ad states.

And a limited edition banknote, released two years ago, with the portrait of Ecaterina Teodoriu on the 20 lei paper, attracted the attention of the community. Its owner announced that the price is negotiable. “I am selling 20 lei banknotes in very, very good condition. 6,800 lei. The price is negotiable. I’m asking for seriousness,” reads the Romanian’s announcement on OLX.

And the 20 lei coin from the 90s ended up costing a fortune. It is 21 years old, weighs 5 grams and has a diameter of 24 mm. On the face of the coin, you can see the nominal value of 20 lei, and on the back is represented the most famous voivode of Moldova, Stefan the Great.
