Valencia reports even more new infections after CL duels with Atalanta | NOW

Valencia announced on Monday evening that more employees of the club have been infected with the corona virus. Of all the tests that have now been taken, 35 percent turned out to be positive.

Valencia speaks of new infestations in the first team and the technical staff, but it is not known who it concerns. The people involved are all at home in isolation. The Spaniards already announced five infections on Sunday, including players Ezequiel Garay, Eliaquim Mangala and José Gaya.

The new cases are explicitly linked by Valencia to the Champions League duel with Atalanta in Milan in late February. Last Tuesday, the two teams played against each other again behind closed doors in Spain.

“Despite the stringent measures we have taken in Milan, which was identified as a risk area by the Italian authorities a few days later, that duel has contributed to the fact that now about 35 percent of the tests taken with us are positive,” writes Valencia in a statement on the site.

Italy is currently the country with the most active infections worldwide. All sporting events have been canceled and public life in Italy has virtually stopped to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The players of Atalanta, including Marten de Roon and Hans Hateboer, are all in quarantine, as are the players of Juventus and Internazionale (Matthijs de Ligt and Stefan de Vrij, among others). Orange-international Jasper Cillessen is under contract with Valencia.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads through sneezes and cough drops. The virus can be transmitted directly from person to person or (for a limited time) through surfaces such as door handles.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Nearly all deaths involve the elderly or other frail, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
  • Read here what precautions you should take.
