Vadlejch finished fourth in this year’s debut in the Diamond League

Vlastimil Vacek, Right

Vadlejch started in Gateshead for the second time this season. He was registered for the inaugural meeting of the Diamond League in May, but due to a groin injury he did not start and did not race until the end of June. He returned to the Republic Championships and then to today’s event, which was a replacement for London. He led for a while with the performance of 80.85 from the second series, but in the end he did not penetrate into the final trio. It was 22 centimeters apart, which was better for the German Julian Weber.

Vetter showed his worst race of the season less than a month before the Olympic competition. For the first time since April, the 2017 world champion did not exceed 90 meters. In Gateshead, he was almost ten meters behind his usual performances, advancing to the final from second place with a throw of 82.13 meters. In the final, he improved by more than three meters and clearly won. Neither Weber nor London Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott reached 80 meters in the sixth series.

The below-average performance of the spears was probably due to the poor quality sector. “It was a really tough competition. I’m disappointed that the conditions weren’t good at all. The surface was really slippery and it was unprofessional. I threw the first five throws some six or seven meters in front of the line, until the last one I gave everything,” Vetter said. Weber also complained. “We are all normally able to throw much further. There was something that didn’t work out, and we weren’t happy about it,” he said.

After hesitation in Monaco, where he finished fifth in his first European start this year, American Trayvon Bromell confirmed his role as the fastest sprinter of the season. He won the 100 in 9.98 seconds. “I take this victory and I want to go back to training, get together and prepare for Tokyo,” said the 26-year-old sprinter.

Femke Bolová dominated the 400-meter hurdles race, which is being run without the injured Zuzana Hejnová this year. The 21-year-old Dutchman, who lags behind world record holder Sydney McLaughlin in this year’s tables, gave the second American Shamier Little more than a second in 53.24. Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah from Jamaica won the double medal in 22.43.

In the final race for 3000 meters, Mohamed Katir broke the record of the meeting. The Spanish national team improved the national record to 7: 27.64 and in the historical tables of this British event surpassed the legendary Ethiopian Haile Gebrsselasie, who in 1999 ran a time of 7: 29.70. Katira was about a second away from the European record.
