(CRHoy.com) The number of doses of the pediatric vaccine against COVID-19 that arrived in the country on January 7, it will not be enough to cover the first age group to be vaccinated this week: 11-year-olds.

The first shipment arrived in the country with 64,380 doses, of which, 48 thousand are pediatric injections and 16,380 doses for those over 12 years of age.

Meanwhile, the population that comprises 11 years of age in our country is approximately 75 thousand people.

“The amount of vaccines we have available is not enough for all “This week, of children to be vaccinated with these pediatric doses,” said Rándall Álvarez, medical manager of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS).

Authorities say the vaccination rate will go hand in hand with the number of pediatric doses arriving in the country.

“(The amount of doses that arrive in the country) is an issue that transcends government management, but to start in the most orderly way possible and to address risk cases we are defining it that way starting tomorrow,” he added. .

According to the authorities, 48 thousand doses of the pediatric vaccine are expected to arrive in the country weekly in the first shipments, however, They did not specify the new date of admission.

Along with the 11-year-olds who are summoned to the vaccinations starting this Tuesday, there are the exceptions of children with Down syndrome or tuberculosis – regardless of age – and those with other risk factors who will be called by the centers of health.
