Vaccine Booster Still Waiting for Phase 3 Clinical Trials

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Ministry of Health (Ministry of Health) is still waiting for the results of the third phase of clinical trials by producers regarding the discourse on doing a booster corona vaccine.

The vaccine booster discourse developed following the findings of cases of Covid-19 infection from residents and health workers who had been injected with the vaccine twice or completely.

Boosters can be in the form of a second shot with a different type of vaccine, a third shot after the complete dose, or a regular vaccine every year to strengthen immunity like the flu vaccine.

“This means that the Phase 3 clinical test that is being carried out by vaccine manufacturers must be completed first,” said Vaccination Spokesperson from the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi to CNNIndonesia.com, Saturday (26/5).

Nadia emphasized that the Ministry of Health did not conduct the clinical trial. However, a team from Padjadjaran University (Unpad) Bandung is conducting a study to test how long the antibodies formed by the vaccine last in the body.

According to Nadia, the two considerations, including input from the World Health Organization (WHO) will be considered by her party to carry out a vaccine booster.

“So both this information and of course the WHO recommendations will be taken into consideration,” he said.

Nadia has not been able to confirm that the results of the third phase of clinical trials from vaccine manufacturers will come out, including the results of the Unlad5 team’s monitoring. He admitted that he did not want to be careless because it was related to health and safety.

“We’ll just have to wait. Because this is related to security and benefits aspects,” he said.
